Bluebells
When I was a tiny child it was still okay to pick wild flowers and one memorable Spring I recall picking what seemed like armfulls of Bluebells with my Grandmother. In fact they only filled one vase. My Grandmother loved Bluebells but never had any in her garden.
When we moved to Willow House I was delighted that first Spring to discover masses of Bluebells throughout the garden. I was able to dig some up and present them to my Grandmother for her own garden. What I didn't realise then was that the Bluebells of Willow House weren't the delicate, arched native beauties of the British Isles but the coarser, often disparaged garden variety sometimes called "Spanish" Bluebells.
Bless her she never said a word other than to thank me.

Even though you told the magpie files that these were not posted for me... they are so beautiful that I will happily claim them.

But they look wonderful anyway.
A misty wood of bluebell in an English spring.......
I was nostalgic.
It was probably usually raining cats and dogs. But a blissful color anyway.

The native bluebells are so lovely, a much better colour too but any bluebells are fantastic where I'm concerned! Lovely Photo
I found you at Elizabeths blog by the way.

Our house is Victorian but it was built on the edge of woodland and at this time of year all the front gardens in the area have bluebells in every nook and cranny. It is extraordinary how they have persisted for so long.

I have 'Spanish' bluebells in my garden, they are still pretty aren't they. On my garden blog I mention the fact that these left to seed in a native bluebell wood, in a few seasons, will overwhelm and replace the choice native. I wonder if this happened in granny's garden! x

How sweet. Yes they are quite different, aren't they. I love the deep blue and delicate look of native bluebells. A bluebell wood is one of the best sights of spring.

love that picture of the bluebells. Too bad there aren't more around and they could be picked. I remember them too from being a kid when we'd too pick them all the time.

Hi Carolyn, thanks for stopping by. Chatsworth is 20 mins up the road, as is Haddon Hall - a very beautiful house and fantastic garden - as is Hardwick Hall. Thankfully I live on the south side of Sheffield so these are literally on the doorstep.
What a fabulous blog you have, love the peggles and your pics are wonderful.

I've noticed a lot more bluebells this year than usual - the weather must be right for them. They look so pretty amongst the hedgerows & along the lanes.
