Those of you who admire the work of the very talented Julie Arkell must take a look at the December edition of Embroidery which contains a lovely feature / interview.
Don't know about you but I find something about her work very appealing. The males in the household can't seem to see the attraction.
Also featured is the work of Claire Coles, how she manages to manoeuvre those sheets of wallpaper through a sewing machine is beyond me.

with the start of Advent the birthdays are all over until next year but chocolate cake is still required for comfort during the onslaught of Christmas preperations.

Whist we are on the subject of books have any of you read Philip Pulmans His Dark Materials? I know they are children's books but they are one of those that crosses the children / adult fiction barrier very nicely. In fact more so than the ubiquitous Harry Potter. Anyway with the release of The Golden Compass film this week I would highly recommend the book. Although I'm sure the Holloywood version will be magical and quite brilliant I can't really imagine that it will be anywhere near as wonderful as this first story in Philip Pulmans trilogy.
