Chicken pics

I spent the afternoon "chicken sitting" with the camera, here are the results:

Chickens 016

Chickens 029

Chickens 032

As you can see "The Newbies" are really sticking together, but, "The Aitches" don't mind at all, in fact that's just the way they like it.

Anyone else having difficulties with Typepad's new "Compose Screen", this is my first post since they changed, the pics are the wrong size and   the text is in the wrong place. What am I doing wrong?

Grrrr I hate change.....

Birds

Catondarlingandmoore_058

Right now the garden seems to be full of baby birds, with song birds fledging left right and centre. You'd think they would steer clear of our garden as we have two cats of our own and half the cats in the neighbourhood seem to think that our ponds are watering holes, but no, they insist on landing plop in the garden. I don't really know why I worry so much about them, the parents seem more than capable of fending off the cats, a rather irrate starling swooped upon Jasper the other day. He didn't know what had hit him!

The other baby birds in the garden are our new chickens, two Amber Stars

and two Black Sussex's. Introducing new birds to a flock is never easy and The Aitches are a little disgruntled with there new companions. An uneasy peace reigns over the chicken house, the Black Sussex duo are very timid and so young that they are still making that little cheep, cheep sound.

They are of course quite adorable and seem to be occupying much of my time as I keep popping down the garden just to make sure they are okay.

Rent

Eggs

The chickens are laying, in a way they are paying their rent. Such a simple pleasure in life collecting eggs from your own hens.

Today sees the end of the April 2008 30 day 30 photograph macro challenge, it has been good for me posting everyday .Thanks for all your support and encouragement.

Happy Chickens

Chickens_003

After weeks of plodding through mud  the girls, Henrietta and  Hetty, can at last find somewhere in the garden dry enough to take a dust bath.

It's a box dwelling creature....

One of the fun things about an animal photo opportunity at Willow House is that when you've taken your photograph and go to take a look at it you see that someone else got there before you and has taken pics like this

none of us can resist the charms of Jasper.

5th Day - The adventures of Macro Mouse

This morning as I walked down the garden I spied this little fellow on the gravel path

Plastic_fantastic_garden_005

as you can see the macro pic shows up the fact that this guy has lived in the garden for a very long time. Years in fact. Now if truth be known there are probably hundreds of mice like this in our gardens, reminders of when a certain young man spent all his pocket money on little rubber mice.

Oh the adventures he had with these mice, they even had a pirate ship that floated on the pond, sadly it sank one day, so there are probably mice-mermaids at the bottom of the pond too.

Now the thing about The Mice of Willow House is that although they are plastic, inanimate objects they suddenly appear in different places. Hubby spotted one here

Plastic_fantastic_garden_006

but the next time you pass that place they are gone, look around carefully and you might just see Macro Mouse somewhere else

Plastic_fantastic_garden_007

never in the same place twice.

Plastic_fantastic_garden_008

Could it be something to do with this personage?

Plastic_fantastic_garden_013

Where are you Macro Mouse?

Plastic_fantastic_garden_011

Phew, thank goodness you made it to safety.

HENS NEED YOUR HELP

22_07_2007_075

You remember our ex battery hens don't you? Of course you do they have a starring role here at Willow House. The Battery Hen Welfare Trust , www.thehenshouse.co.uk has for years been working not only to rehome as many of these poor miss - used creatures as possible but also to improve the conditions within the industry.

I've just learned via Cherry Menlove that battery hens have a very famous person campaigning on their behalf, Hugh Fearnley - Whittingstall of the River Cottage. Read all about it over at Cherry's blog  Tales From Pixie Wood and add your support to Hugh's campaign.

On behalf of Hester, Hetty, Henrietta and Hermione thank you.
